A Thought: On Music and Shame

In response to a friend's post about whether we're ashamed of the music we used to listen to, I wrote probably more than I should have, but this was the last and most relevant bit:

I think the real power in music is that it lets us time travel, in a sense, with the right song forever able to carry us back to a particular moment in our lives, even if it wasn't playing then, necessarily, but just captured the feel of it so completely the first time we heard it years later that it melded itself forever to the memory.

So to give it up, even were that possible, is to give up that ability. Just not worth it for the sake of saving face, to me. Read more!

Pulling Myself Together

The last few months have been difficult, though in a way that I'm not sure I can properly identify.  There's been the obvious stressors, things like the slow process of applying to graduate school and gathering everything necessary for that.  But nothing overly specific.  Things in life are going well, overall, better than they have in quite a while. 

Still...I seem to have lost focus and much of the time I spend alone feels listless and lonely, unmotivated.  I need to find some drive, something to get me going, to inspire me.  I need to get moving, figuratively and literally.  It's time to get back on track. Read more!

A Thought: On the Myth of Tomorrow

Tomorrow is half a myth.  There will always be a tomorrow, true.  We just may not be there to see it, nor can we be sure anyone else will.  That's what makes today so very important, every day. 

Tell those you love how you feel.  Never put off a thank you.  Be cautious, be mindful, but take the good chances, every time you're able. 

Because if you do those things, tomorrow, if you are lucky enough to see it, will be that much better for each you of them.  Sadness falls away, but happiness accumulates exponentially. Read more!
